Ceruttis Hull

Few restaurants offer views as picturesque as the ones diners can enjoy from Cerutti's first restaurant which is based on Hull's old pier, in the old town, overlooking the River Humber.

Since opening in 1974, the family-run restaurant has been frequented by thousands of people who enjoy and appreciate the extensive range of fish delicacies that Cerutti's offers.

Based in Nelson Street, the family's second generation Tony Cerutti has fond memories of the venue's early days.

"Mother and father came to the area in 1958," he recalls. "They were running a hotel in Ripon before that and four Holderness farmers who had heard about their reputation went to ask them if they would run The George and Dragon at Aldbrough.

"They ran it for 28 years and it became famous for good food really. My sister Tina and I started working there when we were young children doing little jobs like washing up. We could even top an old fashioned barrel of beer and clean the pipes by the time we were 10 - we really did learn all the ropes at a young age."

Tony and Joe Cerutti opened Cerutti's, in Nelson Street, in 1974 because they wanted to own a business outright - Tina and Pat continued to run The George and Dragon for a short time.

In 1989, Cerutti 2 opened at Beverley Station because the first restaurant had taken off so well and there was a gap in the market for a fish restaurant in Beverley.
